Friends and supporters of LGBT freedom are urged to join Thursday's demonstration against the banning of Moscow Gay Pride and in solidarity with Russian LGBT groups. The London protest will take place outside the Russian Embassy on Thursday 2 March 2006, from 12 noon, to protest the banning of Moscow Pride by the Mayor of Moscow and threats of violence by Russian religious leaders. DELGA Chair Kelvin Meyrick commented, "DELGA gives its full backing to the protest, and I hope to meet many of our members and Lib Dem supporters outside the embassy."

British LGBT & human rights groups will join their European counterparts in other cities including Paris, Stockholm, Vienna and Warsaw, in a series of continent-wide protests against the banning of Moscow Gay Pride.

The protest is being called by the organisers of the International Day Against Homophobia and will coincide with the parallel protests in other European cities.

Groups supporting the London protest include DELGA, OutRage!, The Gay & Lesbian Humanist Association, The Lesbian & Gay Christian Movement, Pride London and EuroPride, Amnesty International's LGBT group, Gay.com, The British Humanist Association, The National Secular Society, the Jewish Gay and Lesbian Group, The Green Party, the Gay Business Association, Gay to Z Directories, The International Gay and Lesbian Travel Association, Labour Campaign for Lesbian and Gay Rights, and Red Promotions.

The American human rights group Human Rights Watch has also spoken out against the Moscow Pride ban.
