Commenting on the annual report by the Independent Advisory Group on Sexual Health and HIV, which recommended that the Government ringfence sexual health cash to ensure it reaches frontline services, Liberal Democrat Health Spokesperson, Sandra Gidley MP said: "This report further dispels the Government myth that NHS deficits and endless structural reform are not affecting the healthcare people receive.

"Sexually transmitted infections have rocketed in recent years, yet money that the Government claims is being made available is not reaching frontline services.

"Infections are bound to spread if people are not treated quickly. To save money and lives the Government must ringfence sexual health funding and ensure that money is being spent on tackling disease rather than tackling debt."
