6.12.00pm GMT Fri 23rd May 2008

Roger Roberts

Lord Roberts of Llandudno

Yesterday in the House of Lords, Liberal Democrat Lord Roberts of Llandudno urged the Government to introduce a moratorium on returning asylum seekers to Iran.

His comments come after a gay teenager was given the right to remain in the UK. Mehdi Kazemi came to London to study English but faced possible execution if he returned to his home country having been outed. He was initially refused leave to remain in the UK, and has been granted asylum only after a prolonged battle.
