Liberal Democrats Leader Nick Clegg has added his support to the Human Rights Day 2009. Commenting, he said: "Human Rights Day is a time for all people to reflect on the importance of stamping out discrimination, hate and cruel behaviour around the world.

"Human rights are not something you pick up one day and put down the next. They are the unwavering, unshakable commitment to the dignity of people and they are the principles by which we can call ourselves civilised.

"In the aftermath of the horrors of World War II, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights set out the worth of every human being and pledged governments to uphold that worth in future.

"Every one of us should remember those principles and protect them, and I'm therefore delighted to commemorate International Human Rights Day."
